Franklin Monroe plays well against talented Russian Lady Raiders volleyball team.
PITSBURG – The Russia Lady Raiders defeated the home standing Franklin Monroe Lady Jets in straight sets in Monday night non-conference volleyball action.
“Russia is an incredible team and I knew that coming in,” said veteran Franklin Monroe coach, Angie Filbrun. “I see them going really far in tournament and I wish them the best.”
The young Lady Jets squad took the court with one senior; Skylar Bauman on the roster and just two returning varsity players from the 2020 season.
“We are working hard – we are really young,” Filbrun noted. “We are doing everything we can, we’re figuring things out and we are improving every day – we’re prepping for tournament and we’re prepping for next year.”
The Lady Raiders jumped out to a double digit 16-6 lead in taking the opening set of the night.
Franklin Monroe battled back to knot the second set at 10-10 before Russia would pull away for a 25-16 win and go up 2-0 on the night.
“We are putting girls in positions who are young, they’re learning, they are doing incredible, they are an incredible group of girls, they work well together.”
Set No. 3 went to the visitors by a 25-11 score to earn the 3-0 victory.
Coach Filbrun is pleased with the Lady Jets progress and looks forward to the upcoming OHSAA tournament ahead.
“We have done a lot of good things this year,” Filbrun stated,” and I think they are ready to go.”
