Greenville holds Ohio State Horseshoe Pitching Championship

Twenty-five time World Champion, Alan Francis wins Ohio State Horseshoe Pitching Championship in Greenville.

GREENVILLE – Greenville known as the Horseshoe Capital of the World hosted the 62nd Ohio State Horseshoe Pitching Championship with the best horseshoe pitcher from across Ohio competing in the Greenville City Park.

“We had a great weekend of pitching here in Greenville City Park,” said Darke County Horseshoe Club president, Brian Fisher.

Twenty-Five time World Champion Alan Francis won the Men’s Class A title Saturday afternoon after defending his World Title in Winnemuca, NV in July.  Francis’ wife, Amy Francis took the Women’s Class A title on Friday night.

“Alan Francis is here and he just won his 25th World Title,” said Greenville president,   “We’re just proud to have him here in our Great State.”

National Horseshoe Pitchers Association President, Gary Roberts placed second at the prestigious Greenville state tournament.

With Friday night rains passing through the area, the doubles tournament was cancelled.

“We had to cancel our historic doubles tournament but at least we completed all the single and that’s not all bad,” said Fisher. “We’ll be back next.”

Arcanum’s Delbert Fourman won the Elders Class A state title.
