Arcanum, Bradford, Newton and Ansonia round out top four 2022 WOAC teams
The WOAC has several competitive softball teams this season with Arcanum, Bradford, Newton and Ansonia rounding out the top 4 in that order.
Arcanum stands at 19-3 overall and 8-0 in the league. The Trojans are led by pitcher Peyton Garbig with 15 wins, 121 strikeouts both 1st in the league and a 3.4 era. Garbig is also 4 in the league at the plate with a .535 batting average. Ellie Fout leads the league with a .594 batting average and in RBIs with 44 along with 6 home runs. Kaitlin Toy is 5th in the league with 25 RBIs.
Arcanum won 17 straight games in this season before falling to Russia. Coach Mike Morris put together a very tough non-league schedule. “We’ve been playing the toughest competition we can find. We’ve played two DI programs Northmont and Miamisburg testing ourselves and to get ready for tournament,” Morris said. It’s a big week for Arcanum as they play they all the top teams in the league traveling host undefeated Bradford on May 14th.
Bradford is 14-5 overall and 8-0 in league play and is the defending DIV softball state champions. They lost Skipp Miller playing at Ohio University, but the team is starting to play very good softball as the season progresses. Bradford is led by senior pitcher Nylani Beireis who is 2nd in the league with 13 wins, has 49 strikeouts and a 2.96 era. She also leads the league in Homeruns with 8 and 2nd in RBIs with 29. The Railroaders Austy Miller is 2nd in the league in batting at .565, 2nd in homeruns with 7 and 4th in RBIs with 26. Remi Harlemen is 5th with 5 dingers and 3rd in RBIs with 27. Bradford will face Arcanum on May 14 in two big league games.
Newton is 8-13 overall and 7-2 in conference they are led by Senior Laci Miller on the mound with 7 wins. Newton has a tough stretch to end the season playing Arcanum, Franklin Monroe and Bradford.
Ansonia is 12-5 overall and 6-2 in WOAC and is led by Lauren Burns at 4th in the WOAC with 8 wins and 1st in earned runs giving up just 2.11 per game along with 107 strikeouts.
Rounding out the conference National trail is 7-6, 5-3, Tri-County North 9-5, 5-4, Franklin Monroe is 10-12, 4-5, Dixie is 6-8, 3-5, Preble Shawnee is 3-10, 2-6, Twin Valley South is 4-8, 1-7, Tri-Village 5-12, 1-8 and Mississinawa Valley 2-12, 0-8.
