Former Chief Deputy Sheriff Mark Whittaker was sworn in by Judge Jonathan P. Hein as the Interim Sheriff of Darke County on Monday.
Sheriff Whittaker has served over two decades at the Darke County Sheriff’s Department. He served 26 years at the department and 12 years as the Chief Deputy Sheriff.
“He seems well to be well supported by his many employees, which is a really good recipe for success,” Judge Hein said. “The court looks forward to working with him as we have in the past.”
Former Sheriff Toby Spencer officially retired on Saturday, Oct. 31 as the longest serving sheriff in Darke County, with 29 years of service.
