Georgetown wins battle of second half to advance with District Championship
CINCINNATI – The Versailles boys basketball team dropped a 58-49 district title game to the Georgetown G-Men at the University of Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena.
Versailles came into the game with an impressive 22-1 record riding an eight game win streak and the state’s NO. 3 ranked DIII team. Georgetown entered the night with an impressive 20-3 mark as well.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 7-0 first period lead before Georgetown battled back to trail by 2 points, 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Georgetown knotted the score at 21-21 and grabbed a 24-21 lead on a 3-pointer midway through the second quarter.
The Versailles Tigers clawed their way back to an 8 point 41-33 lead in the third quarter on Noah McEldowney’s third trey of the night only to have the G-Men reel off 9 unanswered points stretching into the fourth quarter.
Versailles’ offense struggled in the fourth connecting on just 1 of 14 field goal attempts and finished the period with 8 points while the G-Men were putting 18 points in the book setting up the Georgetown win.
A Georgetown layup gave the G-Men a 46-45 lead followed by back-to-back 3-pointers for a 52-45 advantage with just over two minutes to play that would hold up for the win.
Georgetown junior guard Carson Miles led the G-Men and all scorers with a game-high 28 points including 6-6 at the charity stripe.
Playing their final game for the Versailles Tigers included seniors: No. 3 Noah McEldowney, No. 4 Eli McEldowney, No. 10 Ben Ruhenkamp, No. 11 Caden Hamilton, No. 23 Jaydon Litten and No. 40 Cole Hamilton.
Versailles closes out the season with a 22-2 record while Georgetown moves on in the OHSAA DIII tournament with a 21-3 season mark.
