UC volleyball ‘believes the hype’ with big season-opening win

UC Lady Indians 3-1 winners over the Lady Bears of Monroe Central

UNION CITY, Ind. – The Lady Indians began their regular season Tuesday evening with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Bears of Monroe Central.

“I was really proud of the team,” said UC head coach Ashley Gard. “This season is all about ‘believe the hype’ and we took the first set and they got the second, then we took it from there, because we knew we had the hype we needed.”

“Our girls made some mistakes along the way, but we buckled down when we needed to and got the victory,” Coach Gard added.

Union City was led by senior Mariah Claywell with 23 kills, followed by senior Emily Livingston with 9 kills of her own. Carlee Rismiller led in assists with 35. Defense was led by Emily Evans with 10 digs and Katherine Elliott led with 5 aces in the win.

The Lady Indians look to stay undefeated as they open conference play on Thursday at Northeastern.
