ARCANUM – The Arcanum Ladies golf team hosted Tri-Village at Beechwood Golf Course Thursday night in a match-up of the last two undefeated teams in the conference.
It would be a nail biter till the very end with the Patriots squeaking out the win 203-204.
Tri-Village is coached by Roy Lowry in his 6th year guiding the program and he took the time to give me the rundown on his line-up.
Alyssa Begoon is a junior playing the one for us, she has the most experience qualifying for the district a few years ago. We are hoping to see her get back and go even further over the next two years.
Reagan Brewer is a freshman in the 2-spot and has started the season out well and we are excited about having her around for the next 4 years.
Sage Waters is a junior playing the 3-spot and is the type of kid who is fun to watch and root for, is a program kid who keeps getting better every year.
Taylor Begoon is a freshman and in the 4-spot, she had a low score of 47 the other day, which is exciting to see. Her sister is Alyssa and it’s been a lot of fun watching the two of them play while enjoying their time together on the course.
Bella Black is a sophomore playing in the 5-spot, she is a very athletic, strong kid and has improved from last year to this year. We are really excited about her because we have been able to take more and more of her scores for our matches.
Camryn Wyne is a senior playing in the 6-spot, she has played a lot of golf for us, and we are trying to make the most of it for her last year here with us.
“The team we had last year exceeded our expectation and finished 3rd in the league last year and although we graduated a couple of nice players, we picked up a couple of freshmen who are contributing right from the start and now we have higher expectations for the season,” Lowry said.
“Right now, we are posting some of the best scores since I’ve started coaching here and we want to continue to get better as the season goes along,” Lowry concluded.
The Arcanum girls golf team is coached by Andrew Bryant now in his 7th year with the program.
“We are having a good year so far,” Bryant stated during the match with Tri-Village
Bryant gave me a glimpse of his team which has two seniors Megan McCans and Tessa Riegle, junior Zoe Monnin, sophomores Isabella Harleman and Kaylee Flatter and freshman Brooke Anderson.
“We have a lot of really good athletes out for golf but many of them specialize in other sports, so it takes us a while to sort of get into the golf groove … but once we do we are highly competitive,” Bryant commented.
“We started the season shooting in the high 220’s … but we’ve been dropping 2-3 strokes every match and I believe we are going to peak at the perfect time for conference championship and sectionals,” Bryant added.
“That’s what makes this match tonight with Tri-Village so good … I’ve seen their scores around the 200 range a couple of times, so we must come out today and shoot our best of the season to have a chance,” Bryant concluded.
Based on the outcome of the match Bryant had to be smiling from ear to ear because his team would shoot their best score so far and just finishing one stroke away from tying Tri-Village but falling in the match 203-204.
Tessa Riegle shot a 47, Zoe Monnin 48, Brooke Anderson 53, Meghan McCans 56, Isabella Harleman 57 and Kaylee Flatter a 59 for a total of 204 for Arcanum,
Tri-Village was led by freshman Reagan Brewer with her personal best of 44, and a personal best Bella Black who had a 51.
The Patriots stay undefeated at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference.
Arcanum fell to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
