Maria Stein – Versailles lost a nail biter Friday night against Marion Local 19-17. The Tigers held a 17-13 lead at halftime but could not score in the second half to put the game away.
The Flyers scored on a fourth and goal at the one late in the fourth quarter to take the lead.
The Tigers moved the ball into Flyer territory looking to get the victory but an interception in the end zone looked to end their chances. Marion Local needed one first down to end the game.
The Flyers ran the ball, and fumbled at the 21 yard line and the Tigers recovered. With new life, the Tigers hopes were renewed.
The Flyer defense was up to the task as once again, the Tigers were intercepted ending their chances. The Flyers were able to take a knee and seal the victory.
