Sectional championship loss ends UC football season

UNION CITY, Ind. – The Union City Indians (6-4) hosted the South Adams Starfires (9-2) in the IHSAA Sectional 43 Championship Friday evening.

South Adams took a first quarter lead of 14-0 after a late touchdown, then capitalized off of an onside kick recovery. After a third touchdown, the Stars took a 21-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

Union City turned the ball over on downs to start the second half, with South Adams getting into the endzone to increase their lead. The Indians were able to avoid a shutout, with senior Antoni Valasquez catching a 22-yard pass from senior quarterback Brenden Wright.

The 41-7 loss may have ended the Indians’ season, but Coach Keith Maloy was pleased with the season performance from the team overall.

“This team was special. They fought all year,” Coach Maloy stated. “They made our city, our school and the coaching staff proud.”

“They pointed us in the right direction and we are going to keep working,” he added.
