The Lady Wave kick off 2022 OHSAA season with season opening Harmon Field midnight practice
GREENVILLE – Greenville Lady Wave soccer team ushered in the opening of the season at the strike of midnight early Monday morning with its first official practice of the 2022 OHSAA season under the direction of head coach, Dave Ernst.
“I can’t temper the excitement,” said Ernst. “This is the most athletic, fast, strong, energy level that I have had in three years – that Lady Wave Soccer has had in eight years.”
“I will take this athletic ability verses any team in the MVL (Miami Valley League),” Ernst added. “We’re going to be a fast paced, high energy very exciting team. See what happens – I’m excited to get it started.”
Team captains, senior Lilly Lowe and junior Kaelyn Gump were announced and presented to players and fans attending the season opening practice.
“It is an honor because we take control of the team,” said Gump. “We showed our leadership and we practiced out here for 61 days.”
“It was really important to me this year to be a captain because I don’t think I am going to go further with my career so I wanted to show the girls that what you have is what have and take that time, enjoy it while it lasts because it was hard to walk out here tonight and know that it was the last time.”
“It’s an honor to lead these girls,” said Lowe. “They’re a great group of girls and we have an amazing team. I’m really excited for this season and I am proud to be their captain.”
