Matt Light All-Conference Football Camp hosts 330 campers to free event at Greenville's Harmon Field
GREENVILLE – Greenville’s Harmon Field was home to the 29th annual Matt Light All-Conference Football Camp hosted by the Light Foundation.
“Seventeen hours and this camp was filled up online,” Light said. ”So less than a day this goes out and the take away from what happened with this camp this year is there are a lot of kids loving the game of football.”
“This camp being around as long as it has, the history of Larry Masters and the people he brought to the table, the longevity of a guy like Aaron Shaffer, a guy that I played with who is now the camp director and someone that we put a lot of weight on to help us and all these different coaches, I think it speaks volumes about what they’ve created over the years,” Light added.
“The Matt Light All-Conference Football Camp is a great opportunity for these kids and coaches to come out here and work in a free camp the Light Foundation provides,” Camp Director Aaron Shaffer stated. “We are tremendously grateful for all the sponsors that come on board to help fund the camp.”
The free camp was expanded to a record 330 campers for 2022 through a $10,000 grant from the Bill Belichick Foundation and the generous donations from local businesses and foundations.
Second through sixth grade accounted for 250 campers and 80 seventh and eighth graders provided support for coaches and staff under the Light Leaders mentor program.
“One of the cool things about this year is that we have developed these Light Leaders,” Light shared. “We’re taking some of the older kids that would come to this camp and we’re giving them a new roll where they are helping the coaches and assistant coaches.”
“We start panning for football camp in January,” said April Brubaker, Light Foundation Program Director. “We applied for and received a grant from the Bill Belichick Foundation and that allowed us to add to our camp 80 Light Leaders. We went from 250 kids to 330 kids in line with our mission focusing on leadership. We were able to create the group called Light Leaders this year. They serve like assistant coaches while learning leadership skills and applying those leadership skills.”
“We’re grateful for all the support we get,” said Light. “This community has supported this event for a long time. We have a lot of sponsors that help us pull this off and hats off to them for the continued support of what this camp truly represents which is a lot more than the game of football. It’s talking to them about how to be great teammates, be great leaders, pick up the people around them, keep them positive and have a whole lot of fun doing something that they really enjoy doing.”

It’s a good camp, a good time.”
