Life’s Reflections: Making lifelong friends at the Great Darke County Fair

I know the Great Darke County Fair is over but there are still a couple of photos that didn’t get published on my part…until now.

Son Jamie is a people person as most of you know and on his last day of the fair ran into now one of his “new” friends.

Jamie and I were sitting on one of the benches in front of the gazebo listening to Country Harmony sing and, all of a sudden, I looked around and no Jamie.

Here he was on another bench talking to this fellow who looked familiar.

In recent days, I’ve heard of this person who looks and dresses and sometimes sounds like Hulk Hogan, one of Jamie’s many favorite wrestlers. Two of his friends took a picture of this person during the fair and showed it to Jamie after visiting our home for some driveway, not front-porch, sitting.

So, it shouldn’t surprise me that Jamie jumped at the chance to get acquainted with him.

Jamie was over there quite a while and then I heard him yell over at me, “Mom take our pictures.” So, guess what? I did.

Jamie did not tell me what all they talked about but I can just bet it was about wrestling. I was just hoping Jamie isn’t boring the guy or the woman he was with. I’m sure they wanted to see the concert that was going on. But, once meeting him, Hulk Hogan (aka Kris Shelley), he didn’t appear to be annoyed with my son.

In the other photo which Jamie said was the mega-power handshake that Hulk Hogan and the late Randy “Macho Man” Savage had made famous if you want to call it that. Yes, both of them posed for me.

Come to find out Shelley works with Roger Anthony, who is another friend of Jamie’s and now that will give those two more things to talk about in the future.

What do you want to bet, my next photo will be of Jamie and Roger? Oh, we probably already have one of them somewhere.

It was no problem, though. I know Jamie and he loves people and he most certainly loves the Great Darke County Fair, which thanks to that festival, he can make as many friends as he wants and has already proven that on many occasions.

Jamie, who couldn’t speak complete sentences until the summer before he went to kindergarten, is always making friends with his “gift of gab.” But I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Any friend of his is usually a friend of mine because he’s my world and I want people to love him as well.

Thanks, Kris, for cooperating in this venture and making my son happy.

Jamie and I extend our condolences to the families and friends of Jimmy Bain and Gary Cain.
