GREENVILLE – Later Dudes won the Gene Riegle Memorial Open at the Great Darke County Fair ridden by Chris Page and trainer Ron Burke in a time of 1:52.0 in the Thursday night featured race to win the one mile pace race with a $35,000 purse.

“Fantastic race, beautiful evening, track is in great shape, just a fifth of a second of the track record in the pace,” said Parshall Memorial Stakes VP, Dr. Robert Schwartz. “Just a great evening of racing here and Tim Harless (Parshall Memorial Stakes President) and the Darke County Fair have got to be commended for the job they have done in putting on this program.”

Greenville native, Jeff Nisonger finished fifth out of a field of eight driving Nuclear Dragon with a time of 1:54.1. Charlie May crossed the finish line second and Telmeaboutit placed third, Alwaystellthetruth fourth, Buy In sixth, Smothastenesewisky seventh, and Super Mac finished eight.

“Big night and it takes three years to get to this point because they’re nominated as yearling and then as two year olds and then three year olds coming to the partials so a big night of racing,” said Parshall Memorial Stakes Secretary/Treasurer, Lisa Schwartz. “It’s grown over the years since 1953 when it started. Darke County has put this on ever since the beginning of time and they intend to keep on going.”

“Gene Riegle was a great horseman,” Dr. Schwartz stated. “He did a lot for the industry, Hall of Fame, Three of Diamonds – you could go on-and-on with his accomplishments.”

The Arnie Almahurst Open one mile trot race with a purse of $22,000 went to Smoking Jet in a time of 1:55.1 also driven by Chris Page and trainer Ron Burk. Jeff Nisonger finish seventh driving Shake It Mary in a time of 1:58.2.
