Lady Wave’s Shaffer, Wright and Blocher earn Regional honors

GREENVILLE – Lady Wave Softball players from the 2021 season, Grace Shaffer, Nyesha Wright and Susie Blocher receive Regional fast pitch softball honors.

“We had a few players up for all region honors from this past 31-2 season,” said Greenville Lady Wave Hall of Fame Coach, Jerrod Newland. “Kind of thought we would get a couple but two position players has never happened at one time.”

“Just says how awesome this year was,” Newland added. “With the region being over multiple states it’s just says something about the program and kids and the amazing offensive season we put together as a team. Second most runs in school history.”

Lady Wave 2021 junior and three year starter has one high school softball season remaining to play. Blocher split her time in the field behind the plate and at first base.

“Susie had a great season and is an amazing athlete,” Newland stated. “She gives 100 percent effort at all times and goes a million miles an minute.”

“She plays extremely well behind the plate and cover lots of ground at first,” added Newland. “So proud of her and what she has coming up.”

Greenville’s center fielder, Class of 2021 Nyesha Wright controlled the outfield while hitting for power with the Lady Wave program.

“NY had an unreal senior season,” said Newland.” She lead and her and Grace had the troops ready to roll all year. She scored over 60 runs and knocked in another 50. That’s over 100 just from her. WOW. During the tourney she put together quite a few week run. She was the best player on the field most days.”

Lady Wave senior starting pitcher, Grace Shaffer was a staple on the mound all season for the Girls from Greenville.

“Shaffer first team all Ohio pitcher fell just short on the amazing pitcher Candidate list,” noted Coach Newland, “and (Alaina Baughn second team All-Ohio was first base finalist.”
