Lady Wave hosts Versailles and Celina in preseason basketball scrimmage play
GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lady Wave hosted the Versailles Lady Tigers and the Celina Lady Bulldogs in a Tuesday night scrimmage at Park National Bank Court.
“This was a fantastic scrimmage – really physical and much more up and down,” said Greenville coach, Rachael Kerns. “It is just a great preseason scrimmage to have.”
The scrimmage comes on the heels of last week’s opening scrimmage of the 2021-22 season that saw the Lady Wave scrimmage the Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks and the New Bremen Lady Cardinals with much success.
Both the Lady Tigers and the Lady Bulldogs put taller post players on the court to matchup with Greenville’s inside game.
“I think we adapted very well,” Kerns said. “After the first couple of possessions against each team we did a much better job adapting to what they were doing. We started to play a little bit better.”
The Lady Wave got its share of 10-minute quarter wins on the night as well as struggling on several periods of play.
“That second and third quarter we struggled a little bit,” Kerns noted. “Give credit to the other teams, they knocked down some shots and we missed some shots that I would hope we are not going to miss often, shots that we made in the first and last quarters that we played.
“Overall it was a really fantastic scrimmage,” Coach Kerns concluded. “Just have to get a feel for who can play with who and we just try to get better each week. I think we did some things better this week than we did last week and that is always the goal.”
