GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave varsity volleyball team hosted the Miami Valley League’s only undefeated team in conference play – the Troy Lady Trojans in a Monday night MVL matchup.
The MVL has eight Division I teams and just two Division II schools; Tippecanoe and Greenville making up the 10 team conference.
“We play all Division I schools except the Greenville Federal Invitational,” noted Greenville head coach, Michelle Hardesty. “The only DII schools we get to play this season are Tipp and Eaton – both great schools. It is only going to help us late in the season as we prepare for tournament.”
While the young Greenville team sports two freshman front line starters, Brooke Schmidt and Lilly Camacho, the Lady Wave played well in dropping the match by scores of 25-18, 25-8 and 25-18.
“We told the freshmen we need you to play like an upper classman today and most matches they are,” Hardesty added. “They’re learning and that is what it’s all about for them.”
“This is a whole different speed than what they played last year as a middle school student,” Hardesty added. “Learn and grow in – that is what I preach to them.”
“They’re getting stronger by the minute,” said varsity assistant Jim Hardesty of the Lady Wave freshmen players.
With the win the Lady Trojans improve to 10-0 in MVL play and 13-1 overall on the season. The young Greenville squad drops to 4-6 in league play and 6-7 overall.
“Troy is a great team,” Michelle Hardesty stated. “Their hitters are phenomenal. They are a great team to challenge us and play against because they are only going to make us better and that is what we need to take away from tonight.”
“We scored 18 against them twice and we don’t usually do that against Troy – we competed well,” said Jim Hardesty. “The second set we did not compete very well but we came back strong the third set and at least challenged them a little bit.”
