GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave dropped a 6-1 soccer match to the visiting Brookville Lady Blue Devils in non-conference action.
“I’m one of the most competitive people you will ever meet so I’ve had to rethink my coaching standpoint,” said Greenville coach, Dave Ernst. “I told the girls to go have fun.”
“I’ve coached over 30 years,” Ernst continued. “I’ve never had a kid play bad when they are having a good time. I just want them to enjoy the game, enjoy their teammates, support each other – the results will come.”
Greenville took advantage of a penalty kick with Taylor Gonzalez finding the back of the second half net for the team’s lone score of the night.
“Lillian Schwer was taken out in the box,” Ernst noted. “She made a great run from the outside and got taken out. We had a penalty kick so Taylor put it away.”
With five games into the 2021 season, Coach Ernst and his staff believe they are finding the right combination on the field moving forward.
“We’ve been searching the first five games for a starting 11 and where they should be so we moved some people around,” said Ernst. “First half to a point the three different levels weren’t quite connected. Second half there was more energy that played better.”
“We moved a couple more people around so I think we found our final spots,” he added. “Second half a lot more energy – they had more fun.”
