Josie Madden scores her first Lady Wave goal of season
GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave varsity soccer team dropped a 2-1 match to the visiting Wilmington Lady Hurricanes in a non-conference matchup.
“We’ve had a rough week with injuries and sickness – the little cold/flu going through all the girls,” said Greenville coach, Dave Ernst. “The energy was high, the girls played well.”
“You don’t get the results you want sometimes but we’re growing,” Ernst continued. “The girls are showing energy and desire – those things you just can’t coach.”
Josie Madden found the back of the net for her first goal of the 2021 season to give Greenville a 1-0 lead. Wilmington battle back to even the score at 1-1 with the teams headed to the halftime break.
The Lady Wave performed well in second half play but came up a goal short in falling to the visitors by a single point.
“Wilmington came back and tied it at halftime,” Coach Ernst noted. “We were in a good position and we played well in the second half. They got a nice little goal in on us.”
