Greenville Lady Wave First Annual Alumni Volleyball Tournament a winner
GREENVILLE – With encouragement coming from Greenville alum, Brooke Stachler and former teammates, the Lady Wave volleyball program held its first annual Alumni Volleyball Tournament.
“This is fun,” said veteran Lady Wave veteran coach, Michelle Hardesty. “We really didn’t know what to expect this being the first year. Brooke Stochler who played for us the first year and some of the girls she plays with have been after me for years to put something together so eight weeks ago we put it together, got the gym time and here we are.”
“First time for this – great turnout,” varsity assistant coach, Jim Hardesty stated. “It is only going to get bigger because they girls love to play volleyball. It’s nice to see these ladies. We’ve only been here for five years so some of these girls we don’t know but I’m sure we will get to know them before the end of the day.”
The alumni event included former Lady Wave volleyball coaches Jeff Miller and Tammy Abell along with Tonya Fasnacth Jolliffe and Steph Myers Shepherd from the class of 1984.
Four competitive teams took to the Greenville Senior High School volleyball courts Saturday morning with the team Brittany Teaford (2007), Kylie Gunckel Ripple (2008), Ashlee Powell Knick (2010), Cassie Cromwell (2018), Kierah Beavins (2022), and Kaitlyn Gonzalez (2022) winning the first annual event.
“It’s exciting and good for these alumni to get back in their high school gym,” Michelle concluded.
