Tri-Village Lady Patriots advance in tournament action in straight sets over Central Catholic

COVINGTON – The Tri-Village Lady Patriots advanced in OHSAA volleyball tournament action defeating the Springfield Central Catholic Lady Irish in straight sets 25-11, 25-7 and 25-6.

“If we can come into these games and not have to change or game plan too much – get these teams to focus on us instead,” said Tri-Village coach, Chris Brewer, “that’s what we want.”

Central Catholic entered the day as the No. 21 seed facing a good No. 3 seed Lady Patriots’ team.

“We just needed to show up and still be able to play at a high level no matter who the opponent is,” Brewer said. “I am glad we were able to do that.”

The teams opened play tied at 2-2 before the Lady Patriots took a 15-7 first set lead bringing a timeout from the Central bench. Tri-Village closed out the opening set with a 10-4 run to lead 1-0 with a 25-11 win.

“We came out a little bit shaky in that first game but once we got it together and got comfortable we played pretty tough,” Brewer said.

Set No. 2 saw Tri-Village jump out to a 6-0 advantage and push its lead to 18-2 on its way to a 25-7 second set win.

The third set had the Lady Patriots open with an 8-0 lead on their way to a 25-6 win and earn the right to play South Charleston’s Southeastern Lady Trojans. Tri-Village comes into the tournament match as the No. 3 seed while the Lady Trojans hold down the No. 5 seed spot.

“As usural, our serving helped us out,” Coach Brewer noted. “We serve tough, got them out of their system a little bit and then strong play at the net. Meghan Downing had 10 or 13 kills, Maria Petry and Madi Mead in the middle – both were strong.”

No. 3 seed Tri-Village will play No. 5 seed Southeastern, Tuesday, October 26th at Covington with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
