GREENVILLE—On behalf of Wayne HealthCare we want to congratulate Tiffany Labig on receiving the Spring 2022 DAISY Award. Tiffany has been with Wayne HealthCare since December of 2019 and has been an RN since July of 2021.
Nurses are nominated by anyone in the organization – patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians and staff anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
DAISY stands for “Disease Attacking the Immune System,” and the foundation was established in 1999 by the family of Patrick Barnes, who died of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Pupura. His family wanted to do something to honoring Patrick after his death, so they created the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. What started out as a thank you from their family to nurses has grown into a meaningful recognition program embraced by thousands of healthcare organizations around the world. Tiffany’s clinical skills and compassionate care, exemplify the kind of nurse that patients, their families and hospital staff recognize as an outstanding role model. Kimberlee Freeman, VP of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, presented the DAISY Award to Labig in front of the Emergency Department nursing station.
Along with a certificate, she received a DAISY Award Pin and The Healer’s Touch Sculpture. Labig has dreamed of becoming a nurse for 18 years. She became an RN 12 months ago this May. Prior to her nursing experience she had worked at Wayne HealthCare as a tech and as a unit clerk.
“There’s no way I could have done this without the support of my husband, Kurt, and my kids,” says Labig. “I was so surprised when they said my name. We have so many deserving nurses that work here and I expected that they were coming to award one of my co workers.”
Tiffany described that the week prior to receiving the DAISY award, she had been dealing with an emotionally difficult case with one of her patients she recently cared for.
“The timing of this award was uplifting,” she said. “Tiffany is very deserving of a DAISY award,” says Freeman. “She is very compassionate and truly cares about each of her patients. She is a nurse who you want taking care of your family member. Tiffany is a team player and she is always willing to go the extra mile to help someone. She is an integral part of the Emergency Department and I am so proud that she is part of our team.”
Labig was nominated for the award by members of her team and by the patients she has provided care for.
“Tiffany is an awesome nurse and a very awesome person. My husband was having heart problems and went to the ER in December of 2021. Tiffany was his nurse. She is a very caring nurse,” says Sharon, wife of a previous patient. “She was concerned with how I was handling the situation. Her personality helps you feel more comfortable. We couldn’t have asked for a better nurse.”
Caroline Kress, an employee of Wayne HealthCare, was one of many who nominated Tiffany for the DAISY award.
“While working in the ED, I have witnessed Tiffany create a loving environment for not only our patients but co-workers as well. She is amazing with our mental evaluation patients and there have been many times where she has calmed them down in a matter of seconds by just understanding and showing love to them no matter what,” says Caroline.
Lindsey Terrace, Director of the Emergency Department states, “Tiffany is an advocate for her community. She has received many DAISY award nominations. Tiffany is simply kind. She brought the kinder initiative to the ER. She strives to push for kindness in our ER. She is positive and happy. She is a true blessing to our team.”
The timing of Labig’s award couldn’t have been better, as it was during National Nurses Week. Many nurses received nominations for the DAISY Award and all were recognized for their outstanding care and compassion.
Wayne HealthCare is appreciative of the dedication and service of the nurses in the entire organization, not only on National Nurses week- but every week!
