Hotel Versailles celebrates grand opening

VERSAILLES— After two and a half years, Hotel Versailles is officially open.

The opening was celebrated on Tuesday morning with a ribbon cutting and tours attended by the Darke County Board of Commissioners, U.S. Rep. Warren Davidson, Midmark President and CEO Jon Wells, Mayor of Versailles Jeffry Subler and more.

The Renaissance Corporation, a subsidiary of Midmark Corporation, purchased the hotel in 1992. Following extensive remodeling the hotel was opened in 1993 and called the Versailles Inn.

In Oct. 2019, a large fire occurred that closed the inn.

In the years following its closing, the Renaissance Corporation has built Hotel Versailles, a 30-room boutique hotel. The hotel features Silas Creative Kitchen, and the 1819 Room, which features a built-in bar and a private courtyard with views of town square.

Monique McGlinch VP of Customer Engagement at Midmark Corporation said without the hard work and commitment of the community, Midmark employees and local businesses the hotel would not be completed.

“There was tons of partnership, and I’m proud to be here with all of you,” she said. “I’d like to thank the community, and your continued support and trust in us as we have rebuilt this entire property from the tragic fire of October of 2019.”

The hotel restaurant, Silas Creative Kitchen, is led by Executive Chef Aaron Allen, of Dayton, and has a menu made up of foods from Darke County farms. Some of the local collaborations include Winner’s Meats, Bear’s Mills, Weaver’s Eggs and King’s Brothers Poultry.

“I couldn’t be more excited to partner with our local purveyors, and create a truly local cuisine from the land here in our backyard,” Allen said. “We have an amazing farm just down the road. Katie Bensman grew 2,500 pounds of produce last season, 85 different varieties, absolutely the most amazing produce I’ve ever seen in any farm I’ve been a part of.”

The first hotel was built on the Hotel Versailles property in 1865, since then, seven hotels have operated on the land.

“Hotel Versailles is where heritage meets hospitality,” Wells said. “We couldn’t be more pleased to be opening Hotel Versailles, our restaurant Silas and our event space the 1819 Room. [We are] Thankful, grateful and blessed to be here today.”

Mayor Jeffry Subler added that the opening of Hotel Versailles is the rebirth of downtown Versailles.

“To those who have expressed joy in the thought that this landmark would be rebuilt, so that they could once again return to Versailles to enjoy a meal, fun times and wonderful accommodations, I simply say to you: We are open for business and welcome back,” he said.

Hotel Versailles is located at 21 W Main St, Versailles, Ohio, 45331. For more information call the hotel at 937-526-3020.
