Greenville ties Troy, tops Troy

Greenville American Legion 14U defeats Troy 4-1 in doubleheader nightcap

GREENVILLE – Greenville American Legion Post 140 14U team played Troy to a 4-4 tie in a Thursday night double head and to the nightcap by a 4-1 score over the visitors.

“It was good games played by both Troy and us,” said Post 140 coach, Nathan Fry. “The boys played great, played good defense, hit the ball well, good at bats, that is all we can ask for – proud of them.”

In the opening game Greenville took a 1-0 lead after one inning of play with Troy bouncing back to lead 2-1 after batting in the top of the third.

Post 140 plated three runs in the bottom of the third only to have Troy score a run in each of th fifth and sixth innings and both teams going scoreless in the seventh with the game called in a tie with a second game to be played.

Carson Bergman went 2-2 with a single and a double to lead Greenville at the plate.

Greenville played error free ball in the opening game and collected four hits. Troy had five hits and committed one error.

In the second game of the night the teams played scoreless through the opening three innings with Greenville getting on the board with a single run in the top of the fourth, added two runs in the fifth to lead 3-0 after five complete.

Troy put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth for a 3-1 Greenville lead and added a run in the top of the seventh to make it a 4-1 game that would hold up for the final score.

Greenville had five hits and an error, Troy was limited to three hits while committing three errors.

Sam Deland pace Greenville at the plate going 2-3 with a single, a double and a walk. Hudson Fasnacht pitched five scoreless innings of one hit ball to earn the win while striking out nine and walking two.
