Greenville Seventh Graders Crush Piqua

GREENVILLE – The Greenville seventh grade football team dominated play in defeating the visiting Piqua Indians football squad 40-0 in a home MVL game under the direction of coaches Tom Warner and Kyle Harter.

“All around team win – both sides of the ball,” said Coach Harter. “Everybody did everything we have been asking them to do every day at practice. They executed well and can’t be more proud of them.”

The Green Wave seventh graders bolted out to a 32-0 halftime lead with Riley Gardner scoring four first half rushing touchdowns with two TDs coming in both first and second quarters.

“Riley is a phenomenal athlete,” said Coach Warner. “He works hard in practice every single day and it shows out here game day.”

Taking the second half field, Greenville’s coaching staff respectfully kept starting quarterback Tucker Godwin and running back Riley Gardner along with other starters on the sideline for much of second half play giving valuable on-field experience to all players as the second half was played under a running clock.

Gardner rushed for his fifth touchdown in the second half for a 40-0 Miami Valley League shutout victory. Cael Cromwell and Tucker Godwin each scored a Greenville touchdown on the night in leading the Green Wave to the win.

Greenville fullback and middle linebacker Cole Marshall had a big game on both sides of the ball for the Wave squad.

“Cole played a phenomenal game defensively and offensively tonight,” said Coach Warner. “He leads our defense, he is the core, he anchors our defense.”

With the Wednesday night win Greenville seventh grade stands at 3-0 on the season with wins over Fairborn, West Carrollton and Piqua. Greenville and Tippecanoe remain the only undefeated MVL teams, both with 3-0 season records.
