Greenville JV earns road win over Xenia

Greenville freshman-three combine for 50-points to knock off Xenia in MVL Junior Varsity action

XENIA – The Greenville junior varsity boys defeated Xenia JV on the Buccaneers home court 56-43 in MVL action.

“We came out, especially the freshman group (Eric Brenner, Drew Hamilton and EB Fall) because we lost to them in the semi-final game of the tournament last year so we had an ax to grind,” said Greenville JV coach, Matt Hamilton. “We came out in the first MVL road game of the season, we had to come out right away and play hard – effort, we made buckets, did things right.”

Greenville took an early 10-7 lead after one period of play and took the second quarter 16-10 to take a 26-17 lead at the break.

Drew Hamilton paced the Wave with 10 first half points including a 3-pointer, Eric Brenner tossed in 8-points including a trey, EB Fall added 4-points and Chase Drew and Haiden Livingston each with 2-points to round out first half scoring.

Period No. 3 went to Greenville 12-5 giving the Wave a comfortable 38-22 advantage with one quarter to play.

Greenville and the Buccaneers put up matching 20-point numbers on the fourth quarter board to give the Green Wave JV a MVL victory.

Brenner pace Greenville with 15 second half points including three 3-pointers and 2-2 at the line, Fall added 7-points including a trey, Hamilton 6-points and Barr and Chick each added a 2-point basket.

“Good team win,” Coach Hamilton said.  “Get the first one out of the way and just know that you can go compete on the road. One thing we always focus on for the JV guys is make sure we finish.”

“Basketball is a game of runs so we needed to make sure that we stopped the run, come right back and go right at them – and they did that,” Hamilton added. “Sometimes they let the other team’s momentum go too far and we stopped them and came back.”

Brenner led Greenville and all scorers with a game high 23-points in the Green Wave win.
