Greenville JV earns non-conference win over the Franklin Monroe Jets JV squad
GREENVILLE – The Greenville junior varsity basketball team defeated the visiting Franklin Monroe Jets JV squad 64-30 in non-conference play.
“County pride is always on the line,” said Greenville JV coach, Matt Hamilton. “We know that and we know Franklin Monroe is going to come in here, they are going to be disciplined, they’re going to have skills down because they want to be successful at basketball all the way through.”
The Green Wave jumped out to an 18-7 first quarter lead and took the second quarter by a 10-8 score sending the teams to the break with Greenville holding a 28-15 advantage.
“We wanted to come out right away and get the first punch and never look back,” Hamilton stated.
Period No. 3 went to the Wave 20-6 led by three Eric Brenner 3-pointers with Greenville upping its lead to 48-21 with one period to play.
Greenville made it a 34-point win taking the fourth quarter 16-9 to win the battle of Darke County Schools.
Three Greenville freshmen led Greenville in scoring; Eric Brenner a game high 20-points including six 3-pointers, EB Fall with 16-points and Drew Hamilton 12-points.
“The three freshmen that are playing JV – it’s usually two of the three that kind of goes off and they all have different skill sets, they have different ways they complement each other and it is really hard to stop two or three of them,” said Coach Hamilton. “They work with each other and they play well together.”
Franklin Monroe freshman, Ty Riffle paced Franklin Monroe with 14-points including two treys and a perfect 2-2 at the charity stripe.
