Wave JV uses strong fourth quarter to defeat the Fairborn Skyhawks junior varsity squad.
GREENVILLE – The Greenville JV took advantage of a strong fourth quarter to defeat the visiting Fairborn Skyhawks JV team 52-41 in Miami Valley League action.
“When we work together as a team it’s a whole different story,” said Greenville JV coach, Matt Hamilton. “We did what we needed to do.”
The Wave battled Fairborn to a 12-12 tie after one period of play with Drew Hamilton scoring 5-points, Eric Brenner knocking down a 3-pointer and Jack Chick and Chase Drew each hitting a 2-point basket.
Greenville made it a one point game at the half 24-23 outscoring the Skyhawks 12-11 in the second quarter led by Haiden Livingston’s 4-points including 2-2 at the charity stripe, Brenner with 4-points including his second trey of the first half, and a bucket each from Hamilton and Drew.
“We talked about it at halftime,” Hamilton stated. “This was going to be one of those games that we just had to gut it out and who was going to be the tougher team.”
Period No. 3 like the second quarter had the Green Wave 1-point better outscoring the visitors 15-14 to lead 39-37 with one quarter to play. Livingston paced Greenville’s third period with 6-points, Hamilton added 4-points, Brenner buried a trey, his third of the night and Drew added at 2-point basket.
The final quarter of the night had the Green Wave clamping down on the defensive end of the court holding the Skyhawks to 4-points while Hamilton (5-points), EB Fall and Brenner (4-points each) added 13 fourth quarter points to the board giving the Greenville JV a convincing double digit MVL victory.
“We didn’t execute and take care of the basketball when we needed to,” said Coach Hamilton. “Some of the things we knew we had to do coming into this game we didn’t do until the fourth quarter – but it’s a young group and they’ll learn from it.”
“This was a team win,” Hamilton added. “Doing it together and being tough.”
Hamilton led Greenville and all scorers with a game high 16-points. Brenner contributed 14-points for the Wave including three 3-pointers.
