Fourth quarter comeback gives Greenville JV MVL win over Vandalia-Butler
GREENVILLE – The Green Wave JV basketball team battled back from an 8-2 deficit after one period of play to defeat the visiting Vandalia-Butler Aviators 29-27 in MVL play.
“Just like a usual conference win,” said Greenville JV coach, Matt Hamilton said of the tight game. “It’s good to see this group of young guys – they have to fight every time out.”
Greenville turned the tables on the Aviators in the second allowing the visitors a lone basket while getting a 3-pointer each from Eric Brenner and Drew Hamilton and a Jack Chick free throw to trail Butler 10-9 at the halftime break.
Period No. 3 was played to a 9-9 score with Brenner accounting for 7-points and Hamilton adding a basket sending the teams to the final quarter with Butler holding a 1-point advantage at 19-18.
“We missed a lot of shots throughout the game that we should have made and we normally make but that is part of the game,” Coach Hamilton stated. “You have to play defense and keep playing tough and they did that tonight.”
Greenville took advantage of 4-points each from Fall and Hamilton and a Braeden Wills 3-pointer to outscore the Aviators 11-8 in the fourth quarter to earn a 2-point comeback win over Vandalia-Butler.
“A night like tonight – a Night of Champions, we have a lot of people here,” Hamilton said. “We always want to set the tone for the varsity so getting a win is a good start.”
Eric Brenner led the Greenville JV with 10-points. With the win the Wave JV improves to 8-7 on the season.
