Greenville JV squad outscores the Troy Trojans 34-20 in second half comeback attempt
GREENVILLE – The Green Wave boys JV basketball team come up short in its comeback bid 49-44 in MVL action with the Troy Trojans.
“This is one of those games you say, ‘you win some and you learn from the rest’ – that’s this one,” said Greenville JV coach, Matt Hamilton following the game. “A young group – they came in a little over confident maybe and we have to come out hard right away. The MVL is a tough league you can’t let off at all.”
Troy took a 10-7 lead after one quarter and outscored the Wave JV squad 19-5 in second period action to lead 29-12 with the teams heading to the halftime break.
Greenville outscored the Trojans 34-20 in second half play with the Wave’s three freshmen starters: Eric Brenner scoring 9-points in third quarter action, EB Fall 5-points and Drew Hamilton with 4-points cutting Troy’s lead to 40-28 with three quarters in the book.
Period No. 4 had Fall burring two 3-ponters for 6-points, Jack Chick with 5-points, Brenner knocking down his third triple of the night for 3-points and Owen McGreevey with a basket to get the Wave within 5-points with the buzzer bringing the game to a close.
“The intensity and effort of everybody,” Coach Hamilton said of GHS second half play. “They know, we talked in the locker room. We just have to do a better job and they learn from it.”
The difference in the game came at the free throw line where Troy went 10-13 while Greenville struggled hitting 3-8 at the charity stripe.
