Greenville Senior High School opens 2022 OHSAA football season hosting 7 on 7 four team scrimmage

GREENVILLE – The 2022 OHSAA football season got underway with Greenville Senior High School hosting the St. Henry Redskins, Brookville Blue Devis and the Twin Valley South Panters high school football programs to the first 7 on 7 of the season.

“I’ve been doing this long enough I knew what was going to happen,” said Greenville veteran coach, Bart Schmitz. “We made some mistakes, we wanted to see how kids respond. Right now we are young in some spots. We have to figure out who is going to play and some kids have to step up and win their spots and today was a good first step.”

All four veteran head coaches, Greenville’s Bart Schmitz; Brookville coach, Mike Hetrick; St. Henry’s Brad Luthman and Chris Bartlett at Twin Valley South put their team’s through the two hour Thursday morning scrimmage at Greenville’s Harmon Field.

“It was a lot of fun with Mike and Brad and Chris,” Coach Schmitz said. “Three good schools, good coaches. We get along, that’s what makes this enjoyable. Nobody is out here doing anything stupid so I am proud of what we did today. We’re going to watch some film, we’ll get better.”

The four programs work well together in the early season scrimmage, often stopping play to share plays and ideas.

“We don’t face each other in the season,” Coach Schmitz noted. “These are all guys that I know. I played with Brad who coaches at St. Henry. Obviously I played for Mike’s dad (legendary Versailles coach, Al Hetrick), and Chris is a good guy that I’ve gotten to know down at Twin Valley South. We talk, we get better, we’re not afraid to share information and everybody is learning coaches included.”
