Green Wave wrestling program honors five seniors on Senior Night

GREENVILLE – The Green Wave wrestling program honored five seniors on senior night in a three-team varsity wrestling meet with the Troy Trojans and the National Trail Trailblazers.

“It’s good to have a win on senior night and every one of them got one,” said Greenville coach, David Guillozet. “I am proud of every single one of them.”

“Really proud of Andrew Winner (freshman),” Guillozet added. “He got a big win there against the Troy kid. It was a good match and he has worked hard.”

National Trail won the Thursday night meet with 79-points while Greenville and Troy both finished the night with 39-points each.

“We have a bigger team this year,” said National Trail coach, Robert Clark. “We have a lot of freshmen contributing.”

Prior the meet Greenville introduced its seniors; Logan Thatcher, Ben Hartzell, Matthew Edwards, Seth Shaffer and team statistician, Sheyanne Slade.

“Logan Thatcher, my 138 pounder is a good kid,” said Guillozet.  “He works hard at practice, becoming a good leader and he is primed and ready to make a run in the post season this year. Have some high hopes for him and hopefully he can make it happen.”

“Ben Hartzell my 144 pounder is a retuning district qualifier. He’s ready to go too. I have high hopes for him He’s been working hard at practice and being a good leader as well.”

“Matthew Edwards is at 150 now and is coming into his own. He’s starting to put things together.

“Seth Shaffer, a first year kid, never wrestled before came out his senior year. Real proud of him. He put some things together so hopefully he’ll continue to get better and the team will be better and move on.

“Sheyanne Slade is wonderful,” Guillozet added. “She’s been doing stats for us for several years now.  Her brother Riley came out a few years back and she’s stuck with us – she does stats way better than I would.”

Following the meet win, National Trail wrestling coach, Robert Clark took time to talk about his Trailblazers squad.

“Logan Riesenbach, our 106 freshman did well,” said Coach Clark. “Nathaniel Tirey went 1-0 in his first varsity match as a freshman. Zachary Creager won a couple matches for us as a freshman, a couple of our newer guys, Cooper Smith and AJ WIlson had a couple tough matches, Ethan Wilson, my 175 pound standout senior went 3-0 with 3-pins.”

“Brody Strawser a 190 junior went 2-0 and the one that really surprised me was James Baker my heavy weight. This is the first time in five years I have ever had a heavy weight. He’s a freshman, he went 3-0 tonight and fought hard. Between James Baker my heavy weight and Ethan Wilson, they both did really well so I am extremely happy.”
