Green Wave cross country program numbers 47 runners for 2022 OHSAA fall season

GREENVILLE – The Green Wave junior high and high school cross country program held its annual Meet-the-Team night in the Greenville City Park under the direction of veteran Green Wave head varsity coach, Stephanie Lind.

“Cross country is like a family sport for kids that like to be outside and push themselves to see what their bodies are capable of,” said Lind. “They enjoy cross country and they like this friend group.”

“Parents seem to enjoy cross country and watching their kids run,” continued Coach Lind. “It’s just a fun sport. Everybody gets to compete and every race they are racing against themselves to see how much better they can do.”

Coach Lind leads the program into the 2022 OHSAA season with a large team of runners for both the boys and the Lady Wave. The team sports 19 high school boys, 14 high school girls, 10 junior high boys and four junior high girls.

“We are really close to my max number of runners I have ever had,” noted Coach Lind. “I am super excited for our seniors having their senior season, see what they are capable of this year and enjoy this last year ride with them.”

The Greenville XC team will host its Annual Treaty City Invitational Cross Country Meet and will compete close to home in several events including the Patriot Invite hosted by the Tri-Village Patriots, the Versailles Tour de Sewer, Blackhawk Invitational hosted by Mississinawa Valley at the Light Foundation’s Chenoweth Trails and the Ft. Loramie XC Invitational.

It takes more than a coaching staff to have a successful season while hosting the Treaty City Invitational with more than 1,200 runners annually taking to the Greenville City Park, Coach Lind noted.

“Thank all of the parents,” said Lind. “I drop on them that I need a lot of support and help to help this team function well – to support our kids with meals, snacks and tents. We rely on the parents to help out but it helps with that community feel too, that cross country has that we are all there in it together.”
