GREENVILLE – The Piqua Indians showed why they are a top ranked team in the state with a 49-0 win over the Wave.
Piqua stands at No. 2 in Region 8 Division II OHSAA football standings while Greenville plays in OHSAA Region 12 Division III football.
The Wave took the opening kick and moved the ball 57-yards in 9-plays chewing up minutes on the clock before stalling at the 37-yard line.
“We started the game off and drove down the field our first couple of possessions,” said Greenville coach, Bart Schmitz.
Greenville held the visitors to seven first quarter points but were unable to stop Piqua’s big plays in the second quarter with the Indians taking a 35-0 lead at the break.
“It’s kind of the story of our year right now,” Schmitz stated. “We just can’t finish drives – defensively we gave up to many big plays.”
Piqua added two third quarter scores to make it a 49-0 lead that would hold up for the final score of the night.
Piqua accounted for 12 penalties for 178-yards while Greenville had 6 flags thrown for just 67-yards.
“The kids played hard,” said Coach Schmitz following the game. “That’s all you can ask for as a coach.”
