Greenville experiments with holiday lights

GREENVILLE— The City of Greenville is currently testing out new downtown holiday decorations.

Earlier this month, the city swapped out its Christmas lights for red lights to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

“We will be taking those down soon, and turning on green lights, as well as changing the up lighting on the trees to green,” Matt Myers, Greenville Street Department Superintendent said. “Main Street Greenville’s First Friday in March is titled ‘Show Use Your Green’ and then also St. Patrick’s day is March 17. The lighting will stay green until the end of March.”

Myers said the positive feedback from the city’s Christmas lights pushed the department to test out decor for Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day.

“Winter can be long and dreary, we wanted to try and keep them up a little longer,” he said. “Last March, Main Street Greenville requested the green lighting for March, so we had already planned for that this year.”

In addition to new holiday lights, the department also installed new lighting at the Municipal Building, Myers said. They will change those lights throughout the year as well.
