Greenville Eighth Graders 28-8 Over Butler

Green Wave eighth grade football team earns MVL win over visiting Butler Aviators

GREENVILLE – The Greenville eighth grade football team defeated the visiting Butler Aviators 28-8 in Wednesday night MVL action.

“Boys went out there and executed, did everything we asked of them, played tough and it worked out in the end,” said Co-Coach Karsyn Fender.

“It was a great team win both sides of the football,” Co-Coach Tom Warner stated. “Our boys showed up and played the game.”

Greenville scored on the first play following a fumble recovery with Titus Eberwein racing 12-yards for a score giving the Wave a 6-0 lead at 5:26 in the first. The 2-point conversion attempt failed

Butler answered with a touchdown and made good on its 2-point play to lead 8-6 in the early goings.

Facing a fourth and 22 at the 25-yard line, Greenville’s Tucker Helton connected with Denman for a 25-yard TD strike giving the Wave a 12-8 lead at 5:29 in the second with the conversion play stopped.

“Our boys just answered back and didn’t let it get them down,” Fender said. “We just kept fighting.”

Greenville pushed its first half lead to 20-8 with Helton scampering for a touchdown and Denham scoring on an 8-yard 2-point conversion run following a 5-yard Wave penalty.

A Helton to Cael Cromwell TD pass and a Helton 2-point conversion run extended the Green Wave third quarter lead to 28-8.

Ethan Castle intercepted a Butler fourth quarter pass with 3:02 remaining on the fourth quarter clock to seal the 20-point Greenville victory.

“It’s a team effort,” Warner said. “It takes all 11 guys on both sides of the ball to make it happen and that’s what we did tonight.”

In the early game, the Greenville seventh graders dropped a 14-12 game to the Aviators with the difference coming by way of a 2-point Butler conversion play.

With the win, Greenville eighth graders improve to 3-2 on the season.
