Greenville Athletic Booster to host 1st Annual Catch the Wave 5k run Saturday, April 16

GREENVILLE – The Greenville Athletic Booster will host its 1st Annual Catch the Wave 5k on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the Greenville City Park with a 9 a.m. start time. The event will replace the Boosters’ Singo Bingo event.

“Anything we do as far as events, it’s for the student athletes of Greenville and when we do these it’s obviously a fund raiser,” said Greenville Athletic Boosters President, Randall Bowman. “We are trying to make money so we can help the athletes in any way we can.”

More than 700 students participate in Greenville athletics. Proceeds for the event will benefit all Green Wave athletic programs.

“As a parent of a student athlete I always assumed the school paid for everything,” Boosters Catch the Wave 5k Race Director, Christy Bugher stated. “I am learning there is so much the Boosters do and when you think about 700 kids in the school district, that is a lot of touch points and my son has learned so much from sports. It’s a great way for them to build character and leadership and team building.”

“The kids are really dedicated and you see that year around and most of them respond well to the coaches. Some people don’t realize that kids for certain sports have to buy their own uniforms and there were actually some kids that weren’t going to go out for the sport because they couldn’t afford the uniform and those are the kids that we want to make sure are there, that they have that opportunity to learn and grow and thrive.”

“They are great kids and they are our future leaders,” added Bugher. “Programs like the Boosters allows them to be out there doing the things they love and learning those skills. It’s not just about playing a sport – they learn so much more than that.”
