GREENVILLE—The Aktion Club Member of the Month for July 2022, is Anita Greene.
Greene is a long time member, and has attended Aktion Club meetings since its start around five years ago. She was nominated by her peers, but was chosen for her pleasant demeanor, and her willingness to volunteer on her own time, as well as with the club.
One of Greene’s favorite things to do is to help out at the Darke County Humane Society with her roommate Gladys. They love to pet and play with the kittens. Greene has a guinea pig, named Lil’ Man, and her roommate Gladys, has a cat named Simon.
“Anita is an enthusiastic member of our club and helps any chance she gets,” Sue Huston, Community Connections & Advocacy Coordinator at Darke County Developmental Disabilities said.
In her free time, Greene likes to knit. About four years ago, Greene knitted blankets, and donated them to the Wayne HealthCare Special Beginnings Birth Center. She also likes to spend time with Lil Man, Simon and Gladys, and enjoys donating items to the Humane Society.
Additionally, Greene is a former Corning employee, and enjoyed her job up until the Greenville plant closed in 2001.
In the month of June, the Aktion Club members volunteered 193 hours of their time.
Some of those hours included the Aktion Club Summer Block Party at South Park.
Club members used a portion of their latest spring candy and nut fundraiser to put on the block party. Over 250 people attended the block party at the park, and enjoyed activities, music, games, the opportunity to meet local first responders and a free lunch.
Also in June, 34 Aktion Club members helped out at Poultry Days. Club members also continued sorting
Recently, Aktion Club members helped Darke County DD put on its Family Fun Night at the Darke DD building on Thursday.
Later this month, Darke DD will have a booth in the coliseum at the Great Darke County Fair. The booth will highlight Aktion Club and Darke DD, as well as highlight the shortage of direct support professionals in the industry.
