GCBL holds year end picnic

The Greenville Citizens Baseball League held its year end picnic, trophy presentation and election of officers

GREENVILLE – Greenville Citizens Baseball League (GCBL) held its Year End Picnic and presented trophies to the young players.

“We have a really good turnout tonight,” said GCBL Commissioner, Ron Kerg. “We do trophy presentations tonight and we have officer elections at the end and then we’ll call it an evening and the season will be over.”

“This is the third reschedule for this event,” Kerg continued. “It has been a really crazy year with the weather but I feel like we’ve had a successful year. We have 300 kids in our program so I feel like we are always moving in the right direction.”

The picnic included Winner’s pulled pork and chicken sandwiches, mac and cheese, hotdogs, cookies, Doritos and lemonade. “Winner’s always supplies the meat,” said Kerg.

The Mohawks 8U Mini Ball team coached by Jerrod DePoy took home the first place trophies for the 2022 season.

“It was a good year,” said DePoy. “The kids were great and we had a lot of fun.”

“I want to thank our board members for all the hard work they put into the season,” Kerg stated. “I also want to thank all the parents and grandparents that brought their kids to rained out games, the hot games – it’s been a hot season.”

“I want to thank my wife Julie for allowing me to do what I do it,” added Kerg. “I can’t thank the board enough – we wouldn’t be where we are at without the board and the people we have involved.”

The GCBL is hosting the 35th Annual Annie Oakley Classic baseball tournament, July 15-17 at Greenville’s beautiful Sater Heights Ballpark.
