Franklin Monroe Jets close out 2021-2022 season with third straight win
HOUSTON – The Franklin Monroe Jets defeated the Houston Wildcats in non-conference play to close out the 2021-2022 regular season.
“That’s our third win in six days,” said Franklin Monroe coach, Troy Myers. “Our team closed the season out the way we wanted to.”
“Anytime you can find a way to get a win, especially on the road you have to be thankful for your kids,” Myers added. “What I’m most thankful for them tonight is their willingness out of halftime to respond execution wise as the way we wanted to and they did a phenomenal job in the second half and I am thankful for it
Franklin Monroe took a 13-7 first quarter lead with Ky Cool, Brandon Rumble and Karson Wright each hitting for 3-points and Landon Keller and Ethan Garber both adding 2-points.
Houston battled back to take the second period 16-10 to send the teams to the halftime break with the game knotted at 23-23. Sargent paced the Jets with two 3-pointers for 6-points and Jayce Byers and Blake Addis each contributed a 2-point basket.
Period No. 3 had Tri-Village 4-points better than the home team, 16-12 sending the game to the final period with the Jets holding a 39-35 lead.
Garber led the Jets’ third with 6-points, Rumble added 5-points including a trey and 2-2 at the line, Cool was good for 3-points and Sargent went 2-2 at the charity stripe.
“Anytime you can find a way to get a win, especially on the road you have to be thankful for your kids,” Myers stated. “What I’m most thankful for them tonight is their willingness out of halftime to respond execution wise as the way we wanted to and they did a phenomenal job in the second half and I am thankful for it.”
Franklin Monroe used a stingy defense to put the game away in the fourth outscoring the Wildcats 11-6 to earn the win. Garber hit a bucket and 2-2 at the line to pace FM in the fourth, Cool and Rumble 3-points each and Addis added a free throw.
“If you look at the final score you probably don’t determine a whole lot of what happened in the game,” Myers said. “I feel like we fought a lot of internal battles throughout that game, not just on the floor but some body language stuff – some things we were kind of uncharacteristic with.”
“For whatever reason, when we come up here we always seem to struggle and it’s a grind,” continued Myers, “but that is a lot of credit to Houston in the way they play and how much energy they had in the gym tonight.”
Houston’s Jake Leist led all scorers with a game high 18-points. Ethan Garber led 8-Jets in the scoring column with 12-points and Brandon Rumble was also in double figures with 11-FM points.
“I thought No.0 (6’2” Jake Leist) for them tonight was really good, just attacking and playing,” Coach Myers noted. “He’s a senior and he’s going to do that in his last home game.”
