Former Greenville Senior High School foreign exchange student, Alex Soulis visits Greenville Youth Track & Field Camp
GREENVILLE – Alex Soulis, a former Greenville foreign exchange student from France is back in town making a visit with friends and taking in some of the 2022 Greenville Youth Track and Field Camp.
“I am so happy to be here,” said Soulis. “I stayed with the Bryant family when Million was a senior.”
“We have an exchange student every year participate on our team, sometime multiple students,” said Greenville head track and field coach, Bill Plessinger. “We have never had anyone that made an impact on our team like Alex and we have never made an impact on an individual from another country like we did on Alex.”
“The girl has the guts and the heart of a lion,” Plessinger continued. “I’ve never seen a boy or a girl as tough as she was.”
Soulis was a very good snow boarder before suffering a tragic show boarding accident as a youth limiting her athletic abilities.
“They told her she would never run again – and she ran one race,” said Plessinger.
The exchanged student proved them wrong and ran with the Greenville varsity girls 4×4 but not without its challenges.
“She didn’t warm up, she didn’t practice,” Plessinger noted. “She showed up and ran one race whenever we had a meet. She had one lap in her a week and that’s about it. She would give her best.”
“Alex was our second fastest on the relay team and when she finished she would collapse on the track, we would have to pick her up, carry her to the bus, carry her off the bus and had to put her in her car.”
“Unbelievable girl and the fact that she comes back to see us is pretty cool,” Coach Plessinger concluded.
