Earl Francis Gigandet, 90 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Sunday July 17, 2022 at 3:50 a.m. of natural causes at Versailles Rehab and Healthcare.
Earl was born January 25, 1932 in Darke County, Ohio, the son of the late Clarence F. and Opal A. (Subler) Gigandet.
Earl served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War. He worked as a factory worker at Tait Pump in Dayton, New Idea in Coldwater, and then as a CNC Operator at BF Goodrich in Troy retiring in 1994. Earl was a Member of St. Denis Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus; he enjoyed camping and traveling and was a member of the Sunny Travelers Camping Club.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Norma Jean (Kremer) Gigandet on August 25, 2007 whom he married May 1, 1954; his brother: Paul Gigandet; his in laws: Bernard Shappie, Richard Speck, Don Kunk, Willfred Tumbusch, Rita & Jim Oswalt, and Carl Kremer. Earl is survived by his children and spouses: Tony and Donna Gigandet of Bellbrook, Ohio, Dale and Clarice Gigandet of Minster, Ohio, Nick and Tracy Gigandet of Port Jefferson, Ohio, and Theresa and Terry Barga of Versailles, Ohio; his grandchildren: Joe, Neil, Chet, Glenn (Lara), Christina (Josh), Dan (Tara), Jenny (Jesse), Katie (Connor), Alena (Alyx) and Tyler; 13 great grandchildren; his sisters and brothers in law: Elsie Shappie, of Versailles, Ohio, Edith Speck of Fort Recovery, Ohio, Dorothy and Lee Hart of Wendelin, Ohio, Mary Gigandet of Versailles, Ohio, Margaret and Ray Guillozet of Troy, Ohio, Rita and Ronnie Mayo of Greenville, Ohio, Jane Kunk of Portland, Indiana, and Janet and Skip Hickey of Kettering, Ohio; sisters in law: Carolyn Kremer of North Star and Betty Tumbusch of North Star; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Earl’s sister Mary for helping to care for him over the past few years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, July 21, 2022, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Ned Brown celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. There will be a Knights of Columbus Prayer Service at 6:45 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home and Veterans Honors will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard on Thursday at the cemetery.
