Shots in the Darke
Dear Santa,
I’ve been a good boy most of the year (well, maybe a little naughty at times according to my wife!) and I really don’t need anything but I do have some things I’d like you to consider for others:
For reigning Player of the Year in womens’ college basketball, UConn’s Paige Bueckers, a successful recovery from knee surgery which will sideline her for six to eight weeks.
For Versailles’ Justin Ahrens, continued extended playing time for the Buckeyes basketball team as they enter the Big Ten portion of their schedule.
Continued success for the Bengals as they hope to avoid the dreaded Bungles jinx over the last three regular season games.
Good performances for the Browns as they compete for a playoff spot—stay off the Covid protocol list for pete’s sake! And keep Mayfield, Chubb, and Hunt healthy!
For the Colts, just run the stinkin’ ball!! Carson Wentz still scares me at times!
For sports in general, common sense and good decision making in dealing with an anticipated surge in positive Covid tests over the next few months.
For Ryan Day and THE, the ability to bounce back from a Wolverine thrashing and be prepared emotionally for a Rose Bowl matchup with a tough Utah team.
A large supply of Refresh eye drops for all who overdose on watching a million or so football games over the next six weeks or so!
Speaking of bowl games Santa, please let the MAC win at least one contest. The league is 0-3 so far as Toledo, Northern Illinois, and Eastern Michigan have all come up short. Surely it’s not too much to ask for Kent State, my Miami RedHawks, Ball State, Western Michigan, or Central Michigan to salvage conference respect!
For some semblance of team defense for the Wright State Raiders mens’ basketball team at some point this season.
For all of those overeaters this holiday season, a large bottle or two of Maalox!!
For continued winning efforts by county boys and girls basketball teams. Might as well also ask for tight league races throughout the next two months!
For new recruits to officiate high school sports at all levels in all sports. There are plenty of former players and interested fans out there to fill the ranks and stay involved in the games.
For good behavior and sportsmanship on the part of both players and fans!!
For an increase in activities and physical exercise for all of the readers of this column. For the realization that we only get one chance to take care of this magnificent body that we were given!
Finally, Santa, how about some Peace on Earth, Goodwill to All. I know that is a lot to ask but believe me that is the real reason for the season!!
AW
P.S. I hope you like peanut butter cookies as I ran out of chocolate chips!!
