Darke County United Way launches 74th campaign

GREENVILLE – The Darke County United Way kicked off its 2022 campaign on Wednesday afternoon with a luncheon at Romer’s Catering.

The organization also celebrated a successful 2020. Last year, the group raised over $500,000 and served over 16,000 Darke County citizens.

Following a lunch sponsored by Whirlpool Corporation, Christy Bugher, outgoing Executive Director of Darke County United Way, named Keith Foutz board member of the year. Bugher said Foutz made last year’s tremendous contributions possible.

“This past year during COVID-19, he came to my office every single week to deliver food to blessing boxes within the Greenville School District, even in the pouring down rain,” she said. “Keith has been a member of the board of directors since 2015, he enthusiastically jumped in when he joined the board and hasn’t looked back.”

Bugher also honored retired board member Sherry Smith. Over the last 15 years, Bugher said Smith raised $2.9 million for the Darke County United Way.

“I don’t even have enough hours in the day to explain to you all the great things about her,” she said. “She has been on the board since 1996. Throughout that time she has gone above and beyond. She has shown what the heart of a true volunteer looks like.”

Darke County United Way Campaign Chair Gavin Glasgow then kicked off the 2022 campaign.

“My goal is to help partner with you to raise as much as we possibly can for this year’s campaign,” he said. “This year’s campaign slogan is, ‘Local needs, local solutions.’ Our community can do amazing things by pulling together and helping out one another.”

Lastly, Becca Cotterman, incoming Darke County United Way Executive Director, introduced herself to luncheon attendees.

“I’m so excited to continue to get involved even more in the community, personally and professionally,” she said. “We want to help every person living in our community with stability, education and health.”
