Darke County Fair gives away over 100 bikes

GREENVILLE – The Great Darke County Fair celebrated its 165th year on Thursday by giving away 104 bikes to young-fairgoers as a part of its Family Fun Free Give Away event.

Greenville ACE Hardware contributed and assembled the bikes and several tricycles. Additional sponsors included Apex Clean Energy, Ryder Logistics Management, Fiske Fries, Darke Rural Electric, Snack Shop and more.

Fair board member Jim Zumbrink said the annual event started a few years ago as a way to give back to local children.

“We get all of our bikes locally through ACE Hardware,” he said. “The children can come out here and get a double ticket, drop one in the bucket and if their name happens to be called, they get a bicycle.”

In addition to the give away event, the fair also celebrated its 165th year with free admission and discounted ride wristbands until 3 p.m.
