County leaders gather to celebrate Veterans, First-Responders

GREENVILLE—Numerous county leaders attended Saturday’s Red White and Blue event in honor of Veterans and first responders.

Gaylen Blosser, Veteran and President of Darke County Veteran Services, spoke briefly at the event, in addition to Darke County Sheriff Mark Whittaker and Darke County Commissioner Matt Aultman.

“It is an honor for me to serve the Veterans of Darke County as a Veterans Services Commissioner,” Blosser said. “Darke County is home to 3,300 veterans, a much larger percentage of Veterans than the average for America’s counties.”

The all-day event held in the Greenville City Park, featured a food truck rally from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with trucks such as Nacho Pig, Badges BBQ, Crème De La Crème and Buckeye Burgers in attendance.

Commissioner Aultman said the event was an honor.

“Honoring our Veterans and first responders is always an honor,” he said. “Our rural community depends on volunteers and first responders daily, and you don’t really know how needed they are until you need them. We also have a great population of people who took up the charge to be in the military. Rural communities are always the first to answer the call, and the first they return to after they retire.”

The Ansonia American Legion Post 353 presented the colors and Arcanum sophomore Mora Menzie sang the National Anthem. Local performers Mora & the Boys and Shannon Clark and The Sugar, performed at the event as well.
