The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday afternoon to discuss the Darke County Airport, delinquent sanitary fees and community housing. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Mike Stegall and Larry Holmes were all present.
The board passed Resolutions (R-328, R-329, R-330, R-331, R-332, R-333, R-334, R-335 and R-336-2022 to certify to the Darke County Auditor delinquent sanitary charges from account from the sewers in North Star, Osgood, Yorkshire, Rolin Acres, Rossburg, Stillwater Golf Estates, Wayne Lakes and New Weston-Burketsville.
Next, the board approved a grant application and letter of recommendation regarding the Darke County Airport terminal development. The existing terminal building was constructed in 1968, and no longer meets current standards. A new terminal building will be constructed to reduce maintenance costs associated with the existing structure and to better meet the current needs of the airport.
After review, the board approved the letter of recommendation provided by engineer firm CMT to accept and award the project for the base bid, pending federal ATP grant funding for a total value of $2,065,000, to Westerheide Construction Co, of Sidney.
Commissioners Aultman and Stegall voted for the motion, with Commissioner Holmes voting against it.
Holmes said he was hoping to have heard back from the FAA before rewarding the project.
The project is funded largely by the FAA Airport Improvement Grant. The Darke County Airport is one of two airports in Ohio that will receive federal funds from the Airport Terminal Program under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The airport will receive around $1.3 million to construct a new terminal building.
Commissioner Aultman said that after all of the grant funds are distributed, the county will only be responsible for about 5% of the project, which is about $100,000.
The board approved an agreement of lease between Community Housing of Darke, Miami and Shelby Counties and the Darke County Commissioners at the Treaty House, located at 1115 E. Main St. The term of the lease will be for a term of 456 days. It commenced on July 1, and will end on Sept. 30 2023. Agreement may be extended or renegotiated at the expiration of the lease. Tenant agreed to pay rent of $41,250, or $2,750 per month.
