Commissioners talk airport, Lady Wave Softball

GREENVILLE – The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Monday afternoon to discuss the Darke County Airport and Lady Wave Softball. Commissioners Matt Aultman and Mike Stegall were present. Commissioner Larry Holmes was absent.

The board approved Resolution (R-278-2021), to transfer $35,000 from the general fund to cover airport fuel at the Darke County Airport. Commissioner Aultman said that the airport has exceeded the budgeted sales, and that the use of the airport is way up.

The board then proclaimed Monday, Aug. 30 2021 as Susie Blocher All-American Day in Darke County.

In the proclamation, the board recognized Blocher, a junior on the Lady Wave Softball team, as the third All-American softball player in Greenville Senior High School history. She is one of only 48 All-American softball players in the United States.

Blocher recently played in all 33 regular season games and earned 106 at-bats and scored 32-runs, and 55-hits including 13-doubles and 10-home runs, a .519 batting average and a .555 on base percentage, all while she maintained a 4.0 GPA.

“Thank you guys for all of the support and acknowledging all of the things I’ve tried to set for Greenville softball and just Darke County in general,” Blocher said. “I just want to thank you for today very much.”

Lady Wave Softball Assistant Coach Greg Newland said Blocher is every softball coach’s dream.

“Greenville Softball has very high expectations and it’s because of people like Susie,” he said. “When you have people that work to get to the top, it makes it much, much nicer to be at the top. Susie is just what every coach dreams of.”

The Darke County Board of Commissioners hold regular session every Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at 520 South Broadway, Greenville, Ohio 45331. For more information contact the commissioner’s office at 937-547-7370
