GREENVILLE— The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the Darke County Airport and the Village of Hollansburg. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Mike Stegall and Larry Holmes were present.
The board held a special meeting on Friday, Aug. 19 to open bids received regarding the Darke County Airport terminal area development, however, no bids were received. The board allowed contractors to rebid for the project, and received bids from Armcorp Construction, of Celina, for $2,280,000, Westerheide Construction Company, of Sidney, for $2,065,000 and Arcon Builders, of Arcanum for $2,089,000.
The project includes furnishing all labor, materials and equipment, as well as performing all work necessary for the construction of the new terminal building along with associated site improvements, parking lot and all utility coordination and installation.
Due to a change in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) obstruction evaluation height, the current terminal does not meet FAA standards.
The project is funded largely by the FAA Airport Improvement Grant. The Darke County Airport is one of two airports in Ohio that will receive federal funds from the Airport Terminal Program under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The airport will receive around $1.3 million to construct a new terminal building.
The engineer’s estimate is $1,900,000.
The board accepted the bids for review. The bids will go to engineer Ben Cooley with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly. He will recommend a bid to the board for approval.
Next, the board approved a Fixing of Date for sidewalk construction on Elm St. in the Village of Hollansburg. The board will accept bids at the Darke County Administration building, located at 520 S. Broadway, Greenville, Ohio, 45331, until 1 p.m. local time on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022. They will open the sealed bids, and accept them during regular session that same day at 1:30 p.m. From there, the bids will go on to the county engineer for approval. The project consists of the replacement of 4,900 s.f. of sidewalk.
Contract documents including specifications may be examined or obtained from the Darke County Grants Office located at Darke County Administration building. An electric version of the contract documents is available at no charge by contacting Sally Keiser at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bids will only be accepted from bidders who have obtained the contact documents from the Darke County Grants Office.
Lastly, the board approved a Darke County Courtesy Car Use Agreement. The Darke County Airport will now have a car available for usage to and by transient pilots.
“It’s just a way for transient pilots from out of town, when they get to their destination to hop in our car and go to the meeting, or the business that they have to attend,” Airport Manager Scott Naas said.
The courtesy vehicle was already in the county fleet, and did not have to be purchased for the agreement. It’s available to the airport immediately following approval.
The board holds regular session every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at 520 South Broadway, Greenville, Ohio 45331. For more information contact the commissioner’s office at 937-547-7370.
