GREENVILLE— The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday afternoon to discuss bids for land rent of the Darke County Airport Farm. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Mike Stegall and Larry Holmes were all present.
The board approved a motion to accept a bid of $165 per acre from Matthew Rhoades, of Versailles, for land rent of the County’s Airport Farm, Richland and Wayne Townships.
The lessee will be expected to farm this land with proper crop rotation per FAA rules and regulations: no planting of corn alongside the north and south sides of the airport runway, wheat and soybeans only. Prior to signing the contract, the county will take soil samples. At the end of the contract the lessee will pull samples with the necessary nutrients added to bring the soil back to the beginning samples. Lessee must maintain all established waterways and buffer strips.
Land rent is to be paid twice per year. With the first payment due March 15, and the second due Dec. 15 each year. All federal farm program payments will be paid to the lessee.
Lastly, the board thanked all county, municipal and village workers that braved last week’s snow storm to keep the roads clean.
“Thank you to all those who plowed the roads, and kept us safe,” Commissioner Holmes said. “To those folks who didn’t get to sit at home by the fire because they were out digging us out and keeping us safe. We do appreciate your efforts.”
