Bradford Wins Consolation Game at Buccaneer Holiday Classic

COVINGTON – The Bradford girls basketball team split two games at the Buccaneer Holiday Classic, falling to Russia on Tuesday then beating another WOAC foe Newton on Wednesday 52-31 in the consolation game.

The Russia girls team would go on to win the Holiday Classic defeating Covington 45-30.

Bradford senior Austy Miller had an outstanding tournament and tied former Covington standout Samantha Whiteman for two tournament records; with most points in a game and most points scored in the tournament.

In the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday, Miller tallied a game-high 22 points in a 61-45 loss to Russia and then led the Lady Railroaders to a 52-31 win over Newton in the consolation final with a game-high 27 points – tying the Buccaneer Holiday Class record for most points in a game.

Her 49 total points in the tournament also tied a Buccaneer Holiday Classic record established by Whiteman in 2018.

For her efforts, Miller was chosen to the All-Tournament team along with Claudia Harrington and Maggie Anderson of Covington and the Russia trio of Kate Sherman, Miah Monnin and tournament MVP Ella Hoehne.

Bradford Rylee Canan also had a nice tournament with a two day total of 26 points. Bradford girls now stand at 9-3 overall and will turn right around and play Russia again in the New Year on Monday January 3rd at Russia.
